The subject of this painting is the historic Reuble Barn on Whidbey island. It is a good example of a Gambrel Barn. This type of barn has a roof built with double slope on each side of the roof, with lower slope having steeper roof pitch than the upper slope. Gambrel Barns are also sometimes called Dutch Style Barns.
